Specialty Water Filtration (PFAS, Arsenic, Fluoride, UV) in Etobicoke

Activated alumina — dedicated single-stage cartridge, 90%+ fluoride removal, requires periodic media regeneration with food-grade acid (we handle on annual service). Standard activated carbon does NOT remove fluoride — be skeptical of any pitcher / fridge filter claiming fluoride reduction without naming the technology. Etobicoke fluoridates at 0.6 mg/L; York Region does not.

Three scenarios. (1) Well water with any coliform history — UV is the standard permanent biological-disinfection stage paired with sediment / iron / softener pre-treatment. The priority concerns for pregnancy / infant formula prep are lead (from old service lines or fixtures), fluoride (formula already contains some, additional fluoride may exceed pediatric guidance), nitrate (rural well water in agricultural zones), and PFAS (precautionary). RO at the kitchen sink covers all four with one system, NSF 53/58/401/372 certified. Pediatricians at SickKids and broader Etobicoke practice often recommend RO during pregnancy and infant formula years, then less critical after 24 months.
