Comprehensive accessibility modifications for a senior couple including grab bars, stair railings, lever handles, non-slip flooring, and improved lighting throughout.
Challenge
The couple in their 80s wanted to remain in their home of 40 years but were increasingly concerned about fall risks in the bathroom, on the stairs, and in the poorly lit hallway.
Solution
Installed commercial-grade grab bars at the toilet, shower, and bathtub, added a second stair railing for both hands, replaced all door knobs with lever handles, installed non-slip vinyl flooring in the bathroom, added motion-sensor LED lighting in the hallway and stairs, and installed a comfort-height toilet.
Result
The couple can safely navigate their home independently. Their occupational therapist confirmed all modifications met accessibility standards. Total cost was under $4,000 โ a fraction of assisted living.
โThey understood exactly what elderly people need. Every modification was thoughtful. We feel safe in our home again.โ
