Removed textured popcorn ceilings from 1,800 sq ft of living space and applied a smooth, modern finish with fresh paint throughout.
Challenge
The 1980s popcorn texture contained no asbestos (confirmed by lab test) but was heavily painted over in multiple layers, making scraping extremely difficult. Several areas had water stain damage from old roof leaks.
Solution
Sealed all rooms with plastic sheeting for dust containment. Scored the painted texture, applied warm water to soften, and scraped methodically. Repaired water-damaged areas with new drywall compound, skim-coated all ceilings for a perfectly smooth Level 5 finish, then primed and applied two coats of ceiling-grade flat white paint.
Result
Modern, smooth ceilings throughout that make the rooms feel larger and brighter. The homeowner estimated a $15,000 increase in resale value for a $4,800 investment.
โThe popcorn is gone and our house looks like it was built this decade. They contained the mess perfectly โ no dust anywhere else in the house.โ
