Popcorn Ceiling Removal & Smooth Finish in Scarborough

Challenge

The 1980s popcorn texture contained no asbestos (confirmed by lab test) but was heavily painted over in multiple layers, making scraping extremely difficult. Several areas had water stain damage from old roof leaks.

Solution

Sealed all rooms with plastic sheeting for dust containment. Scored the painted texture, applied warm water to soften, and scraped methodically. Repaired water-damaged areas with new drywall compound, skim-coated all ceilings for a perfectly smooth Level 5 finish, then primed and applied two coats of ceiling-grade flat white paint.
