Asbestos Abatement Coordination in Georgina

A DSS is a pre-renovation building inspection that identifies designated substances (asbestos, lead, mercury, silica, and others) under Ontario Regulation 278/05 and the Occupational Health and Safety Act. It is required before any renovation, demolition, or repair work that may disturb materials in any building constructed before 1990. Bad idea. Reg 278/05 violations carry Ministry of Labour stop-work orders and fines up to $1.5M; personal liability follows worker exposure. Most home insurance excludes asbestos remediation from standard coverage; if a worker is exposed during your unpermitted reno, the homeowner is on the hook. Pre-1990 popcorn ceilings frequently contain chrysotile asbestos (5–15% in many products); post-1990 popcorn typically does not. Bulk testing is the only definitive answer — $50–$120 per sample.
