Cedar Deck + Pergola Combo

Constructed a custom 400 sqft cedar deck and 12x12 pergola in Burlington, featuring integrated LED lighting and robust frost-depth footings for lasting enjoyment.

Challenge

The primary challenge involved excavating and pouring 5ft frost-depth footings in a compact backyard with limited access, crucial for Burlington's climate and code compliance. Coordinating electrical rough-ins for the integrated LED lighting within the cedar structure also required precise planning to maintain a clean aesthetic.

Solution

We utilized premium Western Red Cedar for all decking and pergola components, ensuring both beauty and durability. Structural integrity was achieved using galvanized post anchors set into 5ft concrete footings, fully compliant with OBC Section 9.12 for frost protection. Integrated low-voltage LED strip lighting by Philips Hue was discreetly routed and installed.

Result

The completed cedar deck and pergola transformed the outdoor space into a functional and inviting entertainment area, significantly enhancing property value and livability.
