Full electrical system upgrade for a 1950s Scarborough bungalow, replacing hazardous knob-and-tube wiring with modern, safe Romex throughout the entire home.
Challenge
The primary challenge involved meticulously removing existing live knob-and-tube wiring while protecting the original plaster walls, which are prone to extensive damage. Navigating tight attic and crawl spaces to pull new wiring without disrupting the home's structure required careful planning and execution.
Solution
Our team systematically replaced all old wiring with CSA-approved NMD90 Romex cable, ensuring compliance with the Ontario Electrical Safety Code (OESC) Section 4. We employed specialized techniques for plaster patching to minimize disruption and used Eaton BR series circuit breakers for the new 200-amp service panel upgrade.
Result
The homeowner now enjoys a fully compliant and safe electrical system, significantly enhancing property value and reducing fire risk by over 90%. The project was completed within the 4-week timeline, and the ESA inspection passed on the first attempt, preventing costly delays.
โThe team did a thorough job replacing all the old wiring, and the ESA inspection passing first time was a relief. While the plaster patching was mostly good, a few areas needed a second look to blend perfectly, which they addressed. Overall, the house feels much safer now, and the new panel is great.โ
