# Star Sky Ceiling Cost in Toronto: 2026 Installation Pricing Breakdown
Star sky ceiling pricing in Toronto is one of the most opaque numbers in the renovation market. Quotes for the same 200 sqft master bedroom can range from $3,500 to $14,000 depending on the system, star count, and how aggressively the installer is marking up imported materials. This guide gives you the actual line items so you can read any quote and know what you are paying for.
This is a sibling to our Complete Star Sky Ceiling Guide. If you want the technology comparison first, read Fiber Optic vs LED Matrix Star Ceiling.
The Headline Numbers
All prices are 2026 Toronto/GTA, installed, including membrane, electrical hookup, programming, and a 10-year RenoHouse project warranty. They do not include HST.
| System | Cost per sqft | Typical 200 sqft Bedroom | Typical 350 sqft Theatre |
|---|---|---|---|
| LED matrix membrane | $12–$25 | $2,800–$5,500 | $4,800–$9,500 |
| Fiber optic, 200–400 stars | $20–$30 | $4,200–$6,400 | $7,500–$11,500 |
| Fiber optic, 500–800 stars | $25–$38 | $5,500–$8,200 | $9,800–$14,500 |
| Fiber optic, 1,000–2,000 stars | $32–$45 | $7,200–$10,500 | $12,500–$18,500 |
Add Swarovski crystals at $4–$12 per crystal installed, with 50–200 typical for a master bedroom.
What Drives the Price
1. System Type — The Single Biggest Lever
Fiber optic systems cost roughly 1.7x to 2.2x what LED matrix costs for an equivalent ceiling area. This is not installer markup — it is real materials cost. A Cosmolight Galaxy V8 engine alone is $1,200–$1,800 wholesale. The PMMA fiber harness for 600 stars is another $700–$1,100. Pre-drilled custom membrane is $50–$80 more per sqft than standard PVC.
If your budget is the constraint, do not let an installer talk you into 200 fiber stars in a 200 sqft room — you will end up with a sparse, disappointing ceiling. Better to choose 600 LED matrix stars and accept slightly less realism.
2. Star Count and Density
Density is measured in stars per square metre. The market range:
- 30–50 stars/m² — sparse, accent only, looks "decorative" rather than "sky"
- 60–90 stars/m² — natural urban night sky, recommended for bedrooms
- 100–150 stars/m² — full Milky Way density, recommended for theatres
- 150+ stars/m² — luxury maximum, used in commercial showpieces
A 200 sqft (18.5 m²) master bedroom at 60 stars/m² needs about 1,100 stars. At fiber optic pricing that drives the per-sqft up to the upper end of the band.
3. Star Diameter Mix
A flat ceiling of identical-diameter fibers reads artificial. The realistic mix is:

- 20 percent 0.75 mm fibers (medium stars)
- 10 percent 1.0 mm or 1.5 mm fibers (bright "headline" stars)
Variable mix adds about 10–15 percent to fiber harness cost but is non-negotiable for a luxury result.
4. LED Engine Choice
| Engine | Approximate Wholesale | Stars Supported | Best For |
|---|---|---|---|
| MakeMaster basic | $400–$600 | up to 300 | Kids' rooms, accents |
| Cosmolight Galaxy V8 | $1,200–$1,800 | up to 800 | Master bedrooms |
| Cosmolight Galaxy V8 with shooting star module | $1,800–$2,400 | up to 800 | Premium bedrooms, restaurants |
| Universal Fiber Optics XL | $2,200–$3,500 | up to 2,500 | Home theatres, large commercial |
These are wholesale numbers. Add 25–40 percent for installed pricing including warranty layer and engine commissioning.
5. Twinkle, Shooting Star, and Colour Modules
- Twinkle module: $200–$500 add-on, mechanical or LED-driven. Almost always recommended.
- Shooting star module: $400–$900 add-on, single dedicated fiber that streaks at programmed intervals. Always recommended for bedrooms and theatres.
- Colour cycling: $300–$700 for an RGB upgrade. Optional — many clients prefer pure white.
We cover the shooting star design in Shooting Star Effect Fiber Optic Ceiling.
6. Swarovski Crystal Upgrades
Swarovski Aurora Borealis crystals are glued at primary star positions for daytime decorative presence. Without them, a star ceiling with the lights off is a flat dark surface. With them, you have a subtly sparkling decorative ceiling 24/7.
- 5 mm AB crystal: $4–$6 each installed
- 8 mm AB crystal: $7–$10 each installed
- 10 mm AB crystal: $10–$12 each installed
Typical master bedroom: 60–120 crystals at the headline star positions, $400–$1,200 added to the project. We dedicate a full guide to this in Swarovski Crystal Star Ceiling: When It Is Worth the Money.
7. Constellation and Custom Star Map Design
A randomized starfield is included in standard pricing. A custom star map adds:
- Generic constellation pattern (Big Dipper, Orion): $200–$400 design surcharge
- Personal night sky for a specific date and location: $400–$800
- Full zodiac wheel: $600–$1,200
- Bespoke pattern from a CAD drawing you supply: design fee waived
Lead time for custom maps is 4–6 weeks because the membrane is drilled at the factory to your pattern. See Constellation Pattern Star Ceiling Design.
8. Smart Home Integration
- Basic Wi-Fi remote (included in most engines): $0
- Lutron Caseta or RA3 integration: $250–$600
- Control4 / Savant scene integration: $500–$1,200
- Home Assistant / DMX bridge: $300–$800
- Voice control via Alexa or Google: included with Wi-Fi
9. Plenum Work and Electrical
- Standard 6-inch plenum, simple wiring: included
- Plenum below 6 inches requiring engine relocation: $300–$800
- ESA-permitted electrical for new circuit: $400–$1,200
- Junction box relocation: $200–$500
- Multi-zone DMX wiring for theatres: $600–$1,500
A licensed electrician must run any new circuit. Make sure the installer subcontracts to an ESA-licensed partner — the cost is folded into the quote, but it must show up.

What to Watch for in Quotes
- "Star count" without a diameter mix specified — usually means all-thin uniform fiber, looks flat
- "LED star ceiling" used loosely — clarify whether it is fiber optic with an LED engine, or LED matrix
- Engine warranty buried — manufacturer engine warranty is typically 2–5 years; the installer's project warranty should be separate and longer
- Electrical not itemized — confirm an ESA-licensed electrician is included
- "Twinkle included" without "shooting star included" — shooting star is the *wow* feature; insist on it for premium projects
- Lead time vague — custom drilled membranes take 4–6 weeks; if someone promises 7 days for a custom constellation map, ask hard questions
How RenoHouse Quotes Star Sky Ceilings
Our consultation walks the room, measures plenum depth, recommends a star count and engine, models the room with a starfield render, and returns a written line-item quote within 48 hours. Pricing is locked at signing — we do not change-order star counts.
The quote breaks out:
- 1. Membrane (sqft × rate)
- 2. Fiber harness (count × diameter mix)
- 3. LED engine (specific model)
- 4. Optional modules (twinkle, shooting star, RGB)
- 5. Swarovski crystals (count × size)
- 6. Electrical (ESA-permitted)
- 7. Smart home integration (specified system)
- 8. Project management and 10-year warranty layer
You see exactly where the dollars go.
